What is a Russian Manicure?

Russian Manicure is a technique used with an e-file to remove the cuticle and dead skin around the nail. Also known as a dry manicure or e-file manicure. The technique is very gentle and proper use of the e-file means that your natural nail is not damaged in any way. It can give a beautiful clean finish to any manicure and ensures that there is no cuticle or dry skin left on the nail before product application. Meaning that your manicure will last longer. If you would like any of our services to not include this technique, please ask! We can accommodate any requests.

What is Gel X?

Gel X is a specific form of gel extension that consists of full cover tips adhered with a base gel. It is strong and long lasting while offering no damage to the natural nail and can be used with gel polish to give you whichever colour or design and shape you prefer.

What is Builder?

Builder gel including Builder in a Bottle (BIAB) is a gel product that can be applied to the nail and cured with a UV lamp to add strength shape or length to the nail. Builder can come in a pot or a nail polish style bottle but the end product is the same. Perfect for people who want to grow their natural nails under their gel manicure as it gives a lot of structure to the nail. It does not have to be fully removed at each appointment and can be in-filled every 2-3 weeks or removed entirely by soaking off.

What is Gel Polish?

Gel polish is hybrid of gel and nail polish. It has to be cured under a UV lamp and it does offer some strength to the nail but not as much as builder. Available in any colour you can dream of, this is the perfect product for those who have nails which are not prone to breakage and want a fuss free beautiful manicure with no chipping or smudging. Gel polish needs to be fully removed prior to a new application either by filing off from the nail or soaking in acetone and cleaned off.

What's the difference between gel polish and BIAB?

BIAB  is similar to gel polish but is thicker in consistency and can be applied in a thicker layer to the nail to give strength and shape. Both are cured under a UV lamp and can be top-coated to give a glossy shine and protection. Gel polish can be applied over BIAB or builder.  BIAB or any builder can be in-filled every 2-3 weeks whereas gel polish needs a full removal and re-application each appointment.

Does gel or builder ruin your nails?

No! The only thing that will ruin your nails is improper application or prep, or improper removal. The gel product itself does nothing to affect your natural nail. Its bonded to the natural nail and forms a plastic-like layer protecting and strengthening your nails. If you've had manicures in the past that have left your nails thin, weak or brittle then its probably due to over-filing the natural nail prior to application or during the removal process. Or perhaps improper application has caused lifting of the gel product. I pride myself on being able to offer manicures that maintain nail strength and length without damaging the natural nail.

Why don't you offer regular nail polish?

I started using gel polish about 10 years ago and have never looked back. When gel exploded onto the scene, it was clear to nail technicians that this was the perfect product to offer clients to ensure that their manicures lasted, stayed super shiny and didn't smudge or chip as soon as they left the salon!

I have very short nails. Can I get any manicures done?

Yes! We can offer extensions if you'd like a longer nail, or a gel overlay to help you grow your natural nails. Gel polish or builder can be applied to any length nail with proper technique to give strength and shape. Not everyone wants long nails, and we offer services that enhance your nails natural beauty.  If you're a nail biter or a skin picker then even a standard Spa Manicure can help to stop the urge. We can remove all the dead skin on the nails and fingers to ensure beautiful smooth skin and nothing to bite or pick. And of course, having beautiful nails is the best deterrent!

What can I do to take care of my nails at home?

There's many things you can do to keep your manicure looking fresh and your nails healthy but we understand that some things are unavoidable! Applying cuticle oil or moisturiser regularly will ensure that your nails are looked after. Wearing gloves when washing dishes helps massively. Take care when doing activities like gardening or housework which can be harsh on the hands. Remember, your nails are Jewels not Tools! Even things like opening a drink can or a cardboard box can put stress on your nails. So try to use something other than your fingers where possible. Make sure to wear gloves when dying hair or applying fake tan. If the unfortunate event happens and your nails break or start to lift then please book in ASAP for a repair or a re-fresh.

Why do I need to come every 2-3 weeks?

We recommend in-fills are done every 2-3 weeks for several reasons. The longer your nails grow, the less strength they have so they are more prone to breakage. An in-fill will re-balance the nail meaning we add structure and strength to the points of your nail which receive the most stress. Leaving longer between appointments means these stress points are now in a different place which can leave your nails susceptible to damage. Your manicure can be more prone to chipping the longer its is left on. Your finger nails grow on average about 1mm a week leaving a visible gap at the cuticle area where your nail has grown out. To keep your nails looking fresh, we advise regular appointments. Anything longer than 3 weeks can not be in-filled and requires a full reapplication.

Can I get a pedicure?

Stay tuned! Pedicures are on their way!

Do you do acrylic?

Unfortunately no. There are many gel products with the same amount of strength as acrylic, that can be used to extend the nail or create shape and they are easier to apply and often last longer.
